Bank Reconciliation

Bank reconciliation

Reconcile months of statements for catch-up work

Catch-up work means many statements against one messy ledger. Export the ledger once, then upload the statements month by month; each month gets its own reconciliation workbook, and statements you re-run after correcting the books are not counted again.

Step 1

Bank statement

PDF from online banking, a scan, or the bank's CSV or Excel export.

or drop it here

Step 2

Books

The bank account's register or ledger from QuickBooks, Xero or a spreadsheet, as CSV or Excel.

Finding what is missing

The statement lines that are not in the books are the work list: fees, interest, transfers, card payments nobody recorded. Download them as a CSV in the Date, Description, Amount layout and import them into QuickBooks or Xero, then re-run the month.

Finding what is wrong

Suggestions point at the typical catch-up errors: the same payment entered twice, a deposit booked as a payment, digits transposed, a fee taken off a deposit.

Monthly, cancel any month. A statement is one uploaded statement file; matching it again or against a corrected ledger is not counted again.

Questions

My client only has PDF statements.
That works: PDF statements are read directly, with a balance check. Statement Converter turns the same PDFs into QuickBooks or Xero bank files if you also need to import them.
